Can I volunteer to help shelve materials at the library?

Answer

Unfortunately, we do not accept volunteers at the library to shelve materials, as we have paid staff members who perform these tasks. If you are interested in a paid position, please look for job openings on the Town of Brookline website. In addition, please explore these alternative suggestions:

1. You could inquire with a smaller library (not our Coolidge Corner or Putterham locations, as they also do not accept volunteers for this purpose). Smaller libraries with fewer staff will often accept volunteers to shelve materials. Perhaps Boston Public Library branches, Cambridge branches, Somerville, or nearby Newton, Needham, or Dedham.

2. Although the Public Library of Brookline does not accept volunteers, our Friends of the Brookline Library do sometimes accept volunteers to assist with managing our ongoing book sale. They sort through donated materials, decide what can or cannot be sold, price them, and maintain the sales area. If you're interested in this, please inquire with the Friends of the Brookline Library at friendsofbrooklinelibrary@gmail.com
